Prices for popular cryptocurrencies fell sharply on Wednesday after an increase in profit booking activity. Profit booking activity has increased over the past 24 hours, leading to significant erosion in value.

Bitcoin, which was approaching $48,000 a few days ago, has now fallen to $45,000. It was down more than 1.4% at 1 p.m. today. Bitcoin’s market cap fell to $848 billion, down more than $32 billion from Tuesday.

Ether, the second most popular cryptocurrency in the world, also fell 3% and was trading at just over $3,000. Ether’s market capitalization dropped to $357 billion.

All other altcoins including XRP, Cardano, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Polkadot and Uniswap also fell sharply in the 2-9% range.

Traders should proceed with caution as the cryptocurrency market is likely to be under pressure over the next 24 hours.

Commenting on the virtual coin market, Edul Patel, CEO and co-founder of Mudrex, an algorithm-based global crypto-trading platform, said: “The past 24 hours has been another profit booking session. Most of the other Altcoins have lost their gains for the past few days.

“BTC investors would be on their guard as BTC once again fell below the psychological level of $45,000. This decline led to the addition of several new short positions driving the markets even lower,” he added.

“We can expect markets to remain under pressure over the next 24 hours.”
